George Kenney did his hypnosis training at Omni Hypnosis Center in FL. The same place where I hold certification. He had parents permission to do motivational hypnosis on the students at the school. But was told to stop doing private sessions at school by a couple of school board members. As far as I have read, he was never brought before the school board and told to officially stop the hypnosis sessions.
Two suicides and one car accident victim are being linked to Kenney. Why? Because he "cast spells" according to one news article I read today on AOL. This is ludicrous. Casting spells? Hypnosis does not equal witchcraft people. Kenney did hypnosis to help students improve test scores, excel at sports, release their stress. Not force them to commit suicide or get in a car accident.
The students at the school loved Kenney, as did their parents. The community was very supportive of Kenney when allegations that he was linked to one boy's suicide emerged.
I don't know Kenney personally, but I feel like he's become a scapegoat in all of this. I feel deeply sad for the parents of the students who are gone, and I'm sure the whole school and community are upset. Why does the media need to make things worse by going after someone who has been there for those kids and doing what he could to help them be happier and more successful?
The whole thing is tragic. I wish the media would stop spreading more lies about spell casting and how hypnosis can control people. As a Hypnotist myself, I cannot force anyone to do what they don't want to do while in hypnosis. All hypnosis is self hypnosis, meaning that you are always in control. The media needs to learn more and do more research on what they are reporting on instead of sticking to old myths and misconceptions.
