Restless Mind Syndrome

I was reading an email the other day that mentioned the "restless mind syndrome". This phrase caught my eye, and I started think about this title, and how it is different, yet similar to ADD, and then I began thinking about how I needed to write something about this, but needed to go cook some dinner and organize some things from work, and then it hit me....I HAVE THIS! :)

My mind is, indeed, restless. It bounces from one thought to the next and I find myself writing TO DO lists that don't get completed because I'm too busy thinking of more things that need to be done. I get started on a project and before I know it, I'm doing something completely different.

I'm sure many of you can relate.

Why are our minds so restless?

One thing that is causing this is the amount of fast paced media we have at our fingertips. I get on my computer, and I can look up 10 things on the internet, check my email, upload a few photos, and check the weather report all in 5 min or less. Our minds are bombarded with TV, computers, phones, text messages, emails, iPods, etc. Our poor minds have to work so quickly to keep up with the fast paced technology around us, that our minds become addicted to SPEED. We sit down to read a book, and our mind says "STOP!!! We could be doing SO many things right now!"

Ever stop and think about how much time you are plugged in to technology in one week? One day? One hour? Think about it. IT'S SCARY!!!

We need to find ways to rest our minds. Be it meditation, self-hypnosis, sitting down to read a single book for a few hours, sitting and doing nothing for an hour, anything to unplug and unwind.

How do I rest my mind? I love to knit, do self-hypnosis, self-Reiki, or even just playing a board game with my husband. Ok, my mind is going when I'm playing a game, but it allows me to focus on one single task until it is completed.

Could you go one day with being plugged in? I challenge you to pick one day this week to unplug and unwind. Give your mind the rest it deserves and see what happens.
